Every year, our school takes part in Seachtain na Gaeilge. During this week, the school promotes the Irish language, culture, sports, songs, poems and dances.
The pupils are encouraged to speak Gaeilge throughout the week, and are awarded Gaeilgoirí awards for doing so.
Lá Glas traditionally wraps up Seachtain na Gaeilge. In the lead up to St Patrick’s Day, the children have great fun dressing up in all shades of green for Lá Glas marking the end to Seachtain na Gaeilge.
At the Lá Glas assembly, pupils perform songs, dances and poems “as Gaeilge” that they have learned for each other. The pupils wear green on this day to celebrate being Irish. It is a fun and exciting week. Children across the school try their best to use their cúpla focal and the finale of Seachtain na Gaeilge culminates in a day of fun with all classes performing a variety of songs, dances, plays and poems at this school assembly through Irish.
This year the assembly feels particularly special as it is our first whole school assembly in two full years. It was on the day of our Lá glas assembly 2020 that we received the news that all schools would be closing due to Covid-19. We are all very relieved and grateful to be back together and hopefully have moved past that difficult time.
