Green school committee 2019/2020
As part of our Green School Flag we are currently working on Global Citizenship, Litter and Waste.
Green school committee 2018/2019
The Green School Committee were selected back in Term 1 and are working hard to make Callystown NS a cleaner, greener school as well as helping to spread the message that we are all responsible for looking after Our Planet. Here is what we have done so far this year. We formed a committee with members ranging from 2nd to 6th class.
We did a school survey to find out lots of information about our litter habits and where we could improve on. We are going to be careful around the fruit bins and check the colour of our class bin before we throw our rubbish in it.
We have a moral responsibility to look after it. At assembly in February the Committee introduced The Global Goals for Sustainable Development as agreed by the United Nations, and we heard about the 17 goals they have to help eradicate poverty by 2030. We want to make the world a fairer place with no poverty, so we had a poster competition to see what we would change in the world if we had super powers. There was great excitement in March when the winners were announced and their winning pictures can be seen in our school hall.
As part of the Lenten campaign we raised money for Trocaire and we learned about families who have lost their land in different parts of the world. Over the next 18 months we will continue to work on activities for our Green Flag and we will keep you up updated on our progress here on the website.
